In Jammu and Kashmir, there has been a notable decrease of 7.21% in crimes against women over the past two years. This information comes from the data released for 2023 by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
According to the NCRB statistics, the total number of reported cases of crimes against women in the Union Territory was 3,937 in 2021, which has reduced to 3,653 in 2023. The most frequently reported crime against women in Jammu and Kashmir was abduction, with 895 cases recorded in 2023. Following this, there were 524 instances of domestic violence (cruelty by husband) and 231 cases of rape reported in the same year.
Jammu and Kashmir also leads among Union Territories in terms of cyber crimes against women, with 43 victims filing complaints. This includes 39 cases related to the distribution of sexual content and four instances of blackmail or manipulation of victims' images. This figure surpasses that of Delhi, where 36 cases of cyber crimes against women were reported in 2023.
